Pragmatic Means of Expressing Evidentiality in English and Georgian Media text

Evidentiality is a universal category that reflects the speaker's attitude toward the fact conveyed in the main message. This category can be either direct or indirect. Pragmatic markers that express evidentiality function differently across languages. The research reviews the functioning of direct and indirect evidentiality markers in English and Georgian political media texts, specifically in political interviews. The findings show that direct evidentiality is more prevalent in both languages, which may be explained by the specific nature of interviews and the cultural-linguistic characteristics of the languages.
