Gender Issues in Tamaz Bibiluri's Prose

Abstract

In contemporary social and humanistic sciences, gender issues constitute a central theme of research. Gender, viewed as a socio-humanistic construct, is defined through cultural, historical, and literary contexts; this implies that the roles, rights, and status of men and women have undergone continuous evolution over time. As a prominent component of cultural discourse, belles-lettres reflects societal relations, gender roles, and established hierarchies. When examining gender issues in Georgian fiction, applying a feminist lens to the prose of Tamaz Bibiluri yields particularly interesting insights. Bibiluri’s female characters embody the influences of both traditional life and the realities of their contemporary era. Each of the author's female protagonists is of significant interest in identifying  lived experiences.
